Sidewalk Food Tours has been walking and eating its way through San Francisco since 2013. Our small-group public food tours explore three neighborhoods with very different stories to tell: the Mission District, Chinatown and North Beach. Each tour packs five tastings into three hours, with the history, architecture and characters of the neighborhood served up in between.

Every tour is led by a local who lives here. Spud spent nearly 20 years in the Travel section of the San Francisco Chronicle and has lived in the Mission for almost 30 years. Catherine is a Master Sommelier and wine author. Michael is a food explorer and historian who has called the Excelsior home since 1994. Sidewalk Food Tours has been leading walking food tours in San Francisco since 2013, exploring the Mission District, Chinatown, and North Beach—San Francisco’s Little Italy. Founded in New York City in 2011, we bring 15 years of experience creating neighborhood food tours to every experience.
We tell the story of a neighborhood through its food and the people who prepare it. Our tours combine generous tastings from carefully selected local restaurants with stories about the history, culture, architecture, and food traditions that make each neighborhood unique.
Our knowledgeable local guides know San Francisco beyond the usual tourist highlights—some have lived in the neighborhoods we explore for decades. Most importantly, we believe food brings people together, whether you’re exploring with family, friends, coworkers, or people you’ve just met.

I have been on a couple of tours with sidewalk food tours. One in NYC and this one in San Francisco mission district. Both were excellent and highly recommended. One of the most impressive parts about this tour was the amount of food. There was LOTS of food so come hungry! Our guide was pleasant and impressive.
